History

The cranes and unique marina immediately nod to San Esteban’s industrial past. In 1907, an already old fishing village, San Esteban became the first coal port in Spain. Sitting at the entrance to the Cantabrian Sea on the River Nalón made it an ideal location. When the Basque Asturian Railway arrived, it was transformed the sleepy village with modern cranes, warehouses and an impressive marina. Today the amazing gastronomy, cool weather and excellent location to other attractions make this town the perfect home base for an extended vacation. Come enjoy the many nearby beaches, food and friendly locals.
